Charlotte Figi was a very important person in the history of cannabis legalization in the United States. A non-psychoactive CBD strain called Charlotte’s Web was cultivated for her because it relieved symptoms of her medical condition, epilepsy. Her CBD treatment helped spark a nationwide movement toward the acceptance of the cannabis plant as a helpful medical therapy.
Prior to CBD treatment, Charlotte had been suffering from over 300 convulsions per week. By the third month of treatment using the high CBD strain Charlotte’s Web, Charlotte experienced 90% reduction in seizures, and had been weaned off her other anti-epileptic drugs.
Charlotte’s story became the subject of medical literature and media and ignited a medical-cannabis movement. Her story was the focus of “Weed,” a documentary by CNN’s chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Families moved to Colorado to seek out treatments. The grower’s of Charlotte’s Web, the CBD strain, started a non-profit organization called Realm of Caring.
Sadly, Charlotte passed away April 7, 2020 at the age of thirteen after visiting the hospital over what may have been COVID-19. Shortly after, thousands of posts on social media and articles expressed grief and gratitude for the Figi family and their story.
After her passing, cannabis advocates called on Governor Jared Polis, a vocal supporter of hemp and medical marijuana, to do something to recognize her impact. On April 22, 2020, Colorado Governor Jared Polis proclaimed April 7 “Charlotte Figi Day” to commemorate her impact on the cannabis legalization movement.
This week we released Charlotte’s Cake, a high CBD Live Resin Cartridge to commemorate Charlotte & her impact on our industry.
Charlotte’s Cake is a 2:1 THC:CBD strain that tests at 49% THC and 28% CBD. It does produce psychoactive effects and is not a medical treatment. However, the high amount of CBD does contribute to the overall effect. Those who enjoy both the mental buzz of THC and the bodily relaxation of CBD are sure to enjoy this 100% cannabis live resin vape cartridge.
Cannabis is everywhere, allegedly some scientific evidence supporting it as a viable medical option is still incredibly rare. We hope that with the increasing acceptance of cannabis, more scientific studies of cannabinoids can achieve funding. And more people can benefit from the healing effects of this amazing plant.
